What is FBI Channeling?

The FBI's CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) division, which manages and regulates worldwide criminal and non criminal information, decided to engage a select few companies throughout the United States to permit them to capture and process FBI fingerprint background checks. With the addition of these "FBI Channelers," the FBI could cut down on the number of fingerprint cards sent their agency and also allow for agencies and companies to have their employees fingerprinted electronically for reasons not allowed to be processed by their respective state criminal bureaus.

Innovative Biometric Systems, as a subsidiary of National Background Check Inc., is proud to have been chosen as one of the original, select few companies designated as an "FBI Channeler." This designation allows us to capture electronic fingerprints for FBI processing and return results to authorized recipients via the web, mail or other approved means. Our company and our advanced Livescan system, called SafePrintscan, had to meet the FBI's strict protocol for security standards. All of our Livescan systems have the ability to process FBI fingerprints under channeling. Are you eligible?

You are qualified if you meet the following conditions:

National Background Check, Inc. is one of the few companies in the nation to be recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as an approved FBI channeling agency. The FBI defines a channeler as an “expediter” rather than a user of criminal history record check results. This authorization permits National Background Check to obtain FBI fingerprint-based background checks on non-criminal applicants via electronic fingerprint submission directly to the FBI.

NBCI has the capability to accept fingerprints on cards for an individual needing fingerprinted through the FBI, that is not a federally legislated reason, which you can now request a background check through the FBI. If you seek your personal FBI records, or require the FBI records of prospective hires, simply complete the request form (you can download this DO request form by clicking on this link) and send us your fingerprint card (FD-258) and payment to our corporate office. National Background Check (NBCI) will expedite your fingerprints directly to the FBI under the Departmental Order for FBI Channeling.

Non Governmental Entity who is:

1.) Authorized by Federal Statute or Federal Executive Order to receive CHRI (Criminal History Record Information) for non-criminal justice purposes. Such reasons could include, but are not limited to:

• Employment
• Licensing
• National Security
• Immigration/Naturalization determinations

Government/State Agency who is:

1.) Authorized by Federal Statute, Executive Order or State Statute approved by the US Attorney to receive CHRI for non-criminal justice reasons.
